Utopia/Supermode running slowly
2009-07-10 09:54
tetrafeldHello,

I have been running Utopia Exchange using Supermode for a long time. It always run with a good speed. But nowadays it runs quite slowly after the start of the second round. The first round runs quickly and usually takes about 2 minutes as it did before, but the second and the following rounds take 10 to 12 minutes and sometimes gradually grow slower.

The memory requirement of the Firefox process shown by the Windows Vista task manager is always less than 100 MB by help of a special restart script I got from the forum.

There were two events happening a short time before the speed of Utopia changed on my computer, but of course I am not sure that there might be any coherence:

1)The installation of Firefox 3.5 and Supermode version 2.3b instead of Firefox 3.0
2)The hackers' attack on Utopia Exchange.

Does anybody have the same problem? Is there any known reason for a retardation of Utopia Exchange? Does anybody know how to fix this problem?

In advance, thank you for your help.

Greetings from Tetra

zgeekHi Tetra.
I concur with Tetra. I have the same versions of supermode and FF. After completing a 16 x pass it reverts to a 2x pass after IP change on auto with auto login..

The only mitigating thing from my end is; I have by-passed extensions compatibility through about:config.
Has anyone freshly installed FF 3.5 or just updated it?

I think not memory, or hackers.

To Utopia; what is the name of the cookie you have in FF profile folder? This; ?*cookies.sqlite-journal*

utopia.lvI myself have experienced slow down in visit speed and it has been reported to me by another exchange user.

The reasons for that are following:
* MMC servers are responding slower now, probably because of increased load. Other game links are visited as fast as before.
* Firefox 3.5 memory usage grows very fast when doing visits. The more memory Firefox takes the slower the visit speed. I am looking for solution, but at the moment I don't know what causes it.
* Or it can be your internet connection or PC related problem. For example packet loss, long packet round trip times, slow internet speed, simultaneous connection limiter in effect, high CPU load.

Reduced visit speed is not Utopia exchange related. Your computer connects directly to game servers and does the visits as fast as it can. Only with each 250 visits to game links Supermode contacts the exchange and reports links that have been visited.

If your speed reverts back to x2, that means you are no longer logged in. It might be cookies are lost with IP change.

zgeekUtopia, I accept your explanation as I'm aggressive in cookie cleaning. Now that I know the cookies, I will try something. Thanks :-)

tetrafeldThank you UTO and ZGEEK for your friendly replies.

Please, let me shortly discuss the facts you supposed to be possible reasons for my problem.

1) I think my *internet connection or PC relations* (especially various internet speed, simultaneous connections, CPU load), are just the same as they were ever before.

2) *Firefox 3.5 memory usage grows very fast when doing visits*, indeed. But I tried to mitigate this effect by installing the useful script published at the forum's „IP change automation“ thread, which causes Firefox to restart in case the memory usage increases to more than 100 MB. Remains =>

3) *Slower Responses of the MMC servers because of increased load* O.K. That's what we really can not control. However, on the Utopia top schedules I found some users, who have large daily visit counts as before and, I assume, the same high visit speed as before. Well, may be these users are donors and benefit of the better speed they get therefore.

ZGEEK, I did not try to alter the „extensions. CheckCompatibility“ record through about:config, because I assume it would not have considerable influence on my problem. Btw., my FF 3.5 installation has been a fresh installation after deinstalling FF 3.0.

Well, I understand it would hardly be possible to figure out the precise reasons for the retardation of the visit speed at MMC. However, if anybody should find an operating solution for this problem, I would request him to send me a PM (if PM will be enabled again) or publish it in the forum.

Thank you for your efforts again and greetings from Tetra

lunden-dHi Zgeek, Utopia and Tetra,

I have the same problems and also FF 3.5, BUT only when I do the visits manual.
My profile is gone after IP change and I have to refresh the page 2 times to get it back.
I had the same problems on auto, but they're gone after 3 restarts of my computer...I have no clue why.

Warm regards
Lara
