Supermode stalls.... | |
2010-07-25 16:08 | msattler | I have read a few threads about this, but didn't really seem to find any answers.
My Supermode x16 starts out blazingly fast until it gets to about 59-62% of about 1600 links, and then the pipe clogs up and all links stall. It will then skip all 16 links and start to struggle through again. If I click the options tab and wait 10-15 seconds for things to clear and start Supermode again, it will usually speed through the rest of the links OK. Use the RAM clearing tweak on FF minimize, which helps a bit. Closing the chatbox seems to speed things up a little when Supermode first starts, but does not seem to affect the stall point much. When the stall point is hit, other open windows are also unable to reach anything until Supermode starts to work again. Anybody ever figure this problem out? Thanx. |
2010-07-25 16:31 | msattler | I am starting to think that this problem is based in my Dlink router, as when Supermode stalls on this rig, comms are also stuffed on the other rigs attached to the router until the Supermode stall clears. |
2010-07-25 17:30 | msattler | OK.....
It's in the router. Something with DHCP or just the way the router is configured. If I hook the rig up directly to the modem, it will cruise through all the visits without stalling. May have to try some config changes or a new router. |
2010-07-28 12:07 | msattler | Well....
Got a new Linksys router inbound to try in place of the old D-Link DI-707P that I have been using for years. Will see if that makes a difference. If I bypass the router and connect the rig directly to the DSL modem, I can consistently make 2 minute runs for 1650 links or so with no stalls or skips. Put the D-link back in the loop, and it's more like 4.5 to 5 minutes with stalls and skips. Will report back tonight or tomorrow. |
2010-07-28 12:43 | msattler | Oh, and BTW....
Leaving the chat box open during the run increases the time to almost 3 minutes with the direct connection. Close the chat box at the start of the run for faster passes. |
2010-07-29 03:58 | msattler | It was the router.............LOL.
Replaced the ancient D-Link with the new Linksys and it took off like a rocket. Now can do the run in a little minus 2 minutes, with all 8 rigs attached to the router. It was not the rig, the rig's settings, or the Supermode program. It was the router all the while. And I played with TCIP and other settings in w2k for weeks.......LOL. Firefox, however, is a twitchy thing. If I leave it launched for more than 24 hours or so, it will not shut down when hitting the close button............but that I can deal with. Now if somebody could help me try to automate rebooting my Speedstream 4100 modem, I would be in kitty heaven. Meow. |

You could automate Speedstream 4100 reboot by using for example autohotkey script and telnet to reouter. Or probably there is HTTP link to reboot the router which you could call remotely with wget. |
2010-07-29 17:07 | msattler | Had to rework things a little bit this morning.....
I always had PPPoE on the modem before, but now when I reboot the modem, it takes forever for DHCP to reconnect to it. So I set the modem to PPPoE on the computer (which is actually the router) and set the router up to handle the PPPoE. The GUI on the router has a status page with a button that toggles between disconnect/connect depending on the status of the link. It actually resets and gets me a new IP MUCH faster than rebooting the modem ever did. Now how can I automate that GUI page? Sorry, but I am a real dummy when it comes to that stuff. What's a wget?? LOL. |
2010-07-29 19:15 | msattler | And it would be really handy to have the option NOT to have the chatbox open automatically all the time and have to manually close it. |
2010-07-29 19:25 | msattler | One other small bother.....
FF does not seem to be able to maintain my profile when I get a new IP. I have to click on the options tab first. If I just hit the start button, the profile banner in the upper right hand corner goes away and Supermode starts at X2 instead of X16. I tried going to options/profile/load profile, but it still dumps it anytime I disconnect/connect the router to get a new IP. Same whether I close FF or leave it open. |
2010-07-29 20:13 | msattler | And here's another revelation that I found by accident.
I have FF loaded only to use for Utopia/Supermode. I use Seamonkey for my main browser...very similar. If I start the Supermode run and switch to one of the Seamonkey browser windows that I have open, the Supermode run completes in around 60 seconds instead of 2 minutes! Even without closing the chatbox....just not having the FF window open during the run must kill the work that the system does to keep writing to the display. |

See some examples here .?do=forum&w=view&pid=16210&mid=17629 > And it would be really handy to have the option NOT to have the chatbox open automatically all the time and have to manually close it. Close the chatbox and save the profile settings again here: .?do=profile&w=options > If I just hit the start button, the profile banner in the upper right hand corner goes away and Supermode starts at X2 instead of X16. It may happen sometimes. Try using the method descibed here: .?do=forum&w=view&pid=35&mid=153 > not having the FF window open during the run must kill the work that the system does to keep writing to the display. Should not be problem with "IP change automation" enabled in options. |
