Supermode stops by Network-Timeout | |
2011-11-03 17:17 | tetrafeld | Since several weeks ago, when I run Utopia with Supermode on my PC, it frequently stops after completing a few runs and an error message occurs saying „network-timeout, the server under Utopia.lv needs too long to send a response“. The program then can be restarted manually by checking the „try again“- button, but the automation is interrupted and this, of course, is not in terms of these programs. Does anybody know the reason of this interruption and how to fit this problem?
My configuration is: Windows Vista Home Premium SP 2 Firefox 7.0.1 Add-on „Adblock Plus 1.3.10“ Shockwave Flash 11.0.1.152 Supermode for utopia.lv 2.6 |
2011-11-04 06:30 | TinaX | ...same Problem here, but only from time to time ... sounds like server problems with some lag to me, but probably there are other reasons for that.
Another similar problem with automation: It does a few runs without any trouble (sometimes for hours and hours) and suddenly it shows the visiting process and after finishing that round the automation stops. When i check options/settings, saved to my profile, everythng is OK there. Anyways, this and the problem tetra wrote are very annoying ... hopefully someone can help !! :) |

I am not sure why there are timeouts or automation stops sometimes. I'll make a new Supermode extension that will restart the automation if there is no activity for some time. |
2011-11-07 13:33 | utopia.lv | Supermode extension updated (version 2.7).
Besides supporting Firefox 8 and 9, it allows to set up Supermode extension controlled page refresh. It will restart Supermode even if the web page times out, automation hangs or the page's script hangs. Default refresh value is 31 minutes and can be changed to any value from 5 to 180 minutes. |

...hopefully this will solve the probs. |

Hello Uto, I tested the Supermode extension version 2.7 (still using Firefox 7). I set the refresh value on different values down to 10 minutes, but unfortunately Supermode has never been restarted after a timeout. After the web page has timed out, the pop-up window with the error message „network- timeout“ remains the only item on the screen and there is no access to the program at all. In this case, Supermode will not be restarted before the button „try later“ has been clicked. Perhaps you could have another look on the refreshing routines of the Supermode extension and try to cause them actually to refresh the program after a timeout. By the way, are you sure the refresh values must reach up to 180 minutes? I think, if the automation hangs, the user has an interest, that it will resume as soon as possible. Therefore he will set the refresh value on the lowest possible value. But perhaps I have overlooked something? Uto, thank you for your willingness to solve our problem so quickly. I hope that I may expect you to deal with this matter again. |
2011-11-09 14:54 | utopia.lv | You should disable alert boxes on network time-outs (normally alert boxes are not shown).
Go to about:config and change browser.xul.error_pages.enabled value to True (double click to change the value). Please tell me if this helped. Refresh values go up to 180 minutes, because there might be users that are not using automation, but want to use automatic refresh with a timer. Of course value this high are not needed for automation users. |

Uto, thank you for your hint. But regrettably this did not help. In the about:config section, the "browser.xul.error_pages.enabled" value was already set on "true", so there was no cause to change it. Just for a trial I changed it to "false". This way I found the difference what happens at a timeout: When the value is "false", a small alert-box is shown, saying "Warning. The server under Utopia.lv needs too long to send a response". If you click the O.K.-Button within the box, the page is closed. When the value is "true", a large error page occurs on the screen, saying "Error. Network-timeout, the server under Utopia.lv needs too long to send a response". In addition this window contains some instructions what to to in this case. (But these instructions do not affect our problem.) If you click the Button "try again" within this error page, the program is restarted. However, in both cases there remains an alert-box respectively an error page on the screen, and you will manually have to click a button to get out of the timeout position. And also in both cases, Supermode will NOT be refreshed automatically after the indicated nominal refresh value. Uto, this is the actual situation after a timeout (at least on my computer *lol*). Do you - or does somebody else - have any other useful idea how to solve our problem? Thank you very much for your efforts. |
2011-11-10 22:17 | TinaX | Probably the time to reconnect is simply to short for youir modem or router.
In this case the IP change automation opens Supermode before you have full i-net connection. If you want, try to change the times in the BAT-File ... for me it helped. Well and i added one additional point to my BAT-File, not to start FF immediately after the reconnection. Mine looks like this now: taskkill /f /im firefox.exe rasphone -h "1und1" ping localhost -n 13 >NUL rasphone -d "1und1" ping localhost -n 4 >NUL start firefox.exe -no-remote -P "UTOPIA" -url "http://utopia.lv/exchange/profile.php?w=special&name=xxx&pass=xxx&loc=supermode" (xxx = Name and PW) |
2011-11-16 11:11 | tetrafeld | Great! In my reconnection script I just set a 10 times ping to run prior to the command which restarts Firefox/Supermode. Since the program widely runs without these timeouts. I hope it will remain this way.
@TinaX: Thank you very much for your useful hint |
