Ideas

Personal Statistics [pending]

DavidThis is just an idea that David and I had. It may not suit your page, or you may not be interested but I am going to toss the idea out there.

I like the Tops records very much. But we have seen some different stat pages on other exchanges that are pretty interesting as well.
For example a personal stat page like the following:

http://swle.yarold.eu/mmc_detail.php?name=chanceland&type=mmc

I am not saying that it be exactly the same. Actually I think one could be designed to be more informative and clear, but it is nice for someone wanting to see how they are really progressing in the construction of their city. It could simply be titled "Personal Statistics" and pull the information on to one neat page.
It's a good way to keep an eye on what someone may wish to work on, or see how far they have moved up in rank for a given period.

We happen to like stats (David and I) and I think some other people do too. It's just a thought. The rankings are great, but a snapshot picture of how one's city has been doing would be a nice extra to the page, and could be put under the tops category.
You may even have a better idea of what stats would be helpful to people. We got those stats from Yarold's. Hydra offers different statistics (what surplus of parks you have, how many people are protected by your Sec level. Etc.

We would LOVE to have a personal stats page where we could see how we are doing all on one page that we could click.

Just a thought!

DavidFirst, you can edit that link if you don't want it to show, I know that you know what it looks like, so it was just an example. But I had another thought,
how about if you came up with a great stat page, gathering the most useful data and providing it only to DONORS as a bonus for donating?

That would be great! We would donate again! I hate to have to go to different exchanges to gather the stat information that I want. I mean, you provide great rankings info (global rank is cool, competitors is cool).

But in our communications (more so David than me) we sometimes lose sight of what strides we have made in say a one week, one month period. David
always bums out if he doesn't think he's getting anywhere, but I remind him to check the link I used in the example and you really see how one's ranking in MMC has gone up in a given time period.

Also, the other exchange, which I should not have named perhaps (you can edit that too) is a good idea if it is accurate. Not sure if it is, but it's nice to see: you have enough /sec for the next so and so amt of people.
On the negative side, however, one has to know a standard for what those ratios are.

For example, we fussed greatly because the one stat given us indicated we had a shortage of something. Say by 700. We over-reacted to it, not realizing the number constituted a small amount! Now it tells us we are a few thousand short! So I think if stats were implemented they should have some sort of recognizable value. It would be nice to know if the numbers are significant or not, and so the one exchange loses it's value in providing those stats because there is no standard to compare it with.

Continuing the example, why worry over a supposed shortage of 700 when in reality, one need not be concerned unless it is 7000.

With the first link, that is more just a cumulative record of increase including /xml categories. That is nice and a lot of people that use that exchange aren't even aware it exists!

So I do think that a personal status sheet for donors would be fantastic!

Heather (Sprout)...and I know I speak for David as well! We both like to view stats.

Everyday city statistics would use a lot of database space, but actually not so hard to make as I am already receiving XML data and I could just store latest snapshots in separate database table. I gave it a thought some month ago when I used flat file database and decided it will be too slow and web space is limited on the hosting.

Thank you for idea, I might implement that in future if I get larger database size quota, and currently other things need to be finished first.

Special page showing stat surplus for cities is already planned.
