Supermode | |
2009-04-11 22:34 | mentorville.myminicity.com | Would someone be kind enough to tell me if supermode only works if you are a contributor?
regards Mentor |
2009-04-12 07:41 | Gecko | Supermode works even without donations. If you donate, then
"To thank donors I have created special Supermode version that runs 2 to 8 times faster than regular version. * x2 mode for donations of 5 EUR * x4 mode for donations of 10 EUR * x8 mode for donations of 15 EUR or more" and an auto-shutdown option upon finishing (http://utopia.lv/exchange/?do=donate) are additional options. :D |
2009-04-13 22:33 | Mentor | Thank you for your reply Gecko. Obviously I have a problem somewhere because if I try and run supermode it actually takes 2 - 3 times longer to complete than the normal time to run through 2000+ links.
I will check things out and gather all the information I think may be useful before asking for more help. regards Mentor |
2009-04-13 23:35 | Mentor | Ok here goes ........
I have been back through all the information I can find and still cannot get supermode to function. I would appreciate any help I can get to resolve this problem, especially as I hate things to get the better of me. Here is all the information I think may be usefully - Firefox version 3.0.8 Supermode version 2.2 Windows XP with updates Connection is 56k dial up Time to complete 2000+ links normally around 90 minutes (non-supermode) Time to complete 500 links approx 21 minutes (non-supermde) Other firefox addons are, AVG SafeSearch (ver. 8.0), Flashblock (ver. 1.5.10), Free Download Manager (ver. 1.3.2), Java Quick Starter (ver. 1.0) I have at various times both disabled/re-enabled and uninstalled/reinstalled each of the addons with the supermode being installed and activated both first and last to see if there is any conflict. Public name for profile shows top right of Utopia page and profile shows the full mmc link - i.e mentorville@myminicity.com in both current settings and in profile settings. It seems I am missing something very basic here that is preventing supermode from working at all, any help or guidance will be greatly appreciated. regards Mentor |
2009-04-13 23:52 | MisaMili | You didn't ENABLE supermode on your profile.
go to http://utop1a.info/ and see "STEP 6-8" |
2009-04-14 00:11 | Mentor | Hi MisaMili,
I have had supermode enabled as per steps 6 - 8 several times. It is currently disabled because I can run through the links completely 2+ times in the same time it takes to do a single run with supermode enabled. Typically it takes approx 90 minutes to do a complete run without supermode and anything up to 4 hours + with supermode enabled. This is the very problem I am hoping to resolve. regards Mentor |
2009-04-14 00:26 | MisaMili | Hello,
I enabled Supermode x8 demo for you (on profile: Mentor) , see if it makes links run faster. Utopia Please note that web sites that use pop-ups does not guarantee links are visited. This is because pop-ups may close or change to next link before actual content is loaded into it. It may be faster to use pop-ups, but it also means that only part of links may actually receive visits. Supermode on the other hand will make sure that a link is visited or, if it can not be visited, will skip the link. P.S Try creating Supermode profile on Firefox. Info here, scroll down to 3rd message and see points 1-4. Regards, MM. |
2009-04-14 00:29 | Gecko | My guess is that Supermode may somehow take up more bandwidth, though I'm not sure why it would. Everything else appears to be fine, unless it's something like a firewall causing issues. Have other people on dial-up been using it without issue? |
2009-04-14 00:33 | MisaMili | Your firewall or Antivirus may be blocking supermode requests.
Have you tried disabling firewall/antivirus ? P.S Gecko, Supermode does not take more bw, because it does not download images or scripts. MM. |
2009-04-14 00:42 | Mentor | Demonstration Supermode x8 is running successfully as I type this message |
2009-04-14 00:53 | Mentor | 314 links done in 4.98 minutes using demonstration supermode x8
If supermode x8 is 8 times faster than "normal" mode then "normal" this would have taken approx 40 minutes am I correct ? ( 5 minutes * 8 and = 7.85 visits/minute ) Currently normal mode for me completes 500 links in approx 21 minutes (500 in 21 minutes = 23.8 visits / minute ) this would accuately reflect the performance I get when I have been trying to run the standard supermode, i.e. 2000 approx visits @ 7.85 visits/minute = 254 minutes) Using non supermode the same number of visits would take approx 90 minutes for me. |
2009-04-14 02:16 | Mentor | I have set up the firefox supermode profile as suggested and done the test run.
Still shows "Demonstration Supermode x8" at start of visits list. - 2242 visits 37.71 minutes 100% completed. Therefore at supermode x8 speed = 59.45 visits / minute Normal supermode speed as above but 1/8 of speed ? - 7.43 visits / minute I will try again with antivirus disabled. regards Mentor |
2009-04-14 03:02 | Mentor | Same as previous message but with no AntiVirus running.
2174 visits in 36.85 minutes = 58.99 visits / minute So removing the antivirus has had little if any impact. Firefox already has unlimited access through firewall but in the interests of being thorough I will test again with firewall totally disabled. regards Mentor |
2009-04-14 06:27 | Mentor | Still at supermode x8 - and with firewall disabled
2131 visits in 35.00 minutes = 60.88 visits / minute. Again no noticable difference in speed from when using firewall and antivirus. Now I'm going to try a direct comparison using firefox without the supermode profile. regards Mentor |
2009-04-14 08:07 | Mentor | Using firefox without supermode profile - but still showing "demonstration supermode x8" in Utopia page.
2135 in 43.48 minutes = 49.1 visits / minute A lot more skips this time but I suspect that is more likely due to problems with servers than my original issues. Now I am at a loss as to what to try next. With or without anti virus/firewall/firefox supermode profile seems to make little or no difference at x8 supermode. regards Mentor |
